[10:41:28] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21X5lGlDOfg NASA Live: Official Stream of NASA TV [10:41:37] ~20 min ago they play KSP. [10:44:22] :D [10:45:36] what is happening? [10:45:41] disclaimer! [10:47:17] They have a suborbital rocket (at best) with goo. Haven't watched it all, yet. [10:47:37] And talk about rl, too. [10:48:08] this was some fps thing [10:48:25] you seem tpo be talking about some rocket thing [10:49:19] They want to get to orbit. [10:50:40] 48 km Ap [10:51:14] stability augmentation system? It's stability assist system, isn't it? [11:28:14] They made orbit in training mode. [11:32:41] he name-dropped EJ_SA and Scott Manley at the start [11:36:01] in elite the game calls it fligth assist. that is an sas lol [14:14:53] Post for Althego. http://cdn.webfail.com/upl/img/9f1b27770f3/post2.jpg [14:15:35] :D [14:32:02] lol [15:31:58] https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Multiple_software_errors_doomed_Boeing_crew_capsule_test_999.html [16:21:00] how bad of an idea is this? https://i.imgur.com/SvqxGM4.png [16:21:08] to be landed on Eve [16:21:29] hehe [16:21:45] try testing on kerbin [16:22:16] as usual with a setup like this, that the inflatables want to turn the other way [16:22:24] oh no [16:25:42] I don't even know how I'm going to launch that [16:40:30] yeah, those inflatable shields really want to be a hat in denser atmospheres [16:42:21] unless you put them on the other side too [16:42:36] I saw a vid where matt lowne does that [17:08:47] how I got that into orbit is a mistery https://i.imgur.com/n1YAjc7.png [17:16:59] maybe I can dive nose first? [17:48:58] now the rocket tips over, but in the other direction, that's new [18:16:56] soooo, I lost 300k because I made bad saves [18:17:11] and the ship does not survive reentry, maybe I need grid fins at the top [18:25:02] moar retro-boosters [18:33:27] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [19:16:16] ok, airbrakes don't work :( [19:16:42] they do [19:17:03] not as a torque source on a completely flat structure [19:17:25] https://i.imgur.com/f7S8bvK.png [19:17:31] is that the intended use? [19:17:56] that should work [19:17:59] maybe they are not enough [19:18:32] how, they were not activated [19:18:36] ho* [19:18:42] for eve i usually build bomb like things. inflatable in front, some fins at the back behind the inflatable so they dont burn up but att stability [19:19:00] they do look activated [19:19:22] when I click on them, the button is pushed but it's written "unactive" [19:21:22] failure journal ongoing here https://imgur.com/a/yJCv8Gy [19:24:53] you can still the one size bigger conventional [19:24:57] still try [19:25:06] maybe that creates less drag [19:33:06] the there are bigger airbrakes ? [19:33:28] or are you talking about the heatshield? [19:33:52] yes, you can swap it to an ablative one [19:33:59] but a bit bigger than the body [19:34:12] ok I just did that [19:34:25] I don't know if the rest will not burn [19:36:45] probably [19:51:27] yay stacktrace now [19:51:33] this thing will never fly :D [19:51:38] hehe [20:15:28] https://i.imgur.com/5YlpaW3.png and https://i.imgur.com/ZjM5slR.png [20:15:33] lsot 3 fins total [20:15:53] hehe [20:19:44] well https://i.imgur.com/0p241VK.png [20:19:49] 11m/s is way too fast [20:20:03] would that work on Eve though? [20:20:27] maybe. 1.6 g but way higher pressure [20:20:29] 1.5 [20:21:08] also legs can dampen the impact even if they are destroyed or damaged, way aobve 12 m/s [20:21:36] ok so that _may_ work on Eve [20:22:50] ok Duna as 5x the pressure of Kerbin [20:22:58] don't know how that translates for 1.7g [20:27:20] keep saying Duna instead of Eve, in my head I'm still stuck there :D [20:55:16] cubic struts work as sacrificial legs. [20:55:31] Much lighter, too. [20:55:53] Somewhat heat sensitive. [21:08:09] changed strategy for the boosters https://i.imgur.com/rkSa8hU.png [21:10:27] in "Realistic Atmospheres", Eve has some crushing 10 atm pressure at sea level [21:13:12] 5 is enough thanks [21:15:46] https://i.imgur.com/3n2k1ij.png :) [21:15:57] I should have packed RCS or more reaction wheels though [21:17:27] maneuverability is overrated [21:17:57] hatrix: There are no nose cones on the boosters. That'll cause high drag. [21:18:28] there was some on the previous design [21:22:44] How do you get negative Ap with hyperbolic trajectories? [21:22:59] I've seen it irl, too. [21:23:22] https://youtu.be/-X-p5C4SLVo?t=972 [21:27:12] there's an answer with math symbols here: https://www.quora.com/How-can-an-apogee-be-negative [21:27:21] maybe they're doing it the other way around when they're not in orbit? [21:27:54] oh, ok [21:29:25] I'll try multiple aerobrakings on this one [21:32:11] ok my relay around Eve desynchronized :( [21:32:18] how do you keep them on the same period exactly? [21:32:49] hatrix: Multiple relays? [21:33:02] 6 around Eve [21:33:09] wow [21:33:21] I'm atalking about # of satellites [21:33:29] in stock? target the first relay and set up the orbits so that their approach markers form a regular triangle/hexagon [21:33:29] not number of networks [21:34:07] with KER: look at the orbital period of the "master", reduce thrust to minimal and adjust the other sats to within the same millisecond or so [21:34:25] in stock I only have the period up to the second [21:34:28] it's not enough apparently [21:35:51] I used KER to display orbital period to ms, adjusted the orbit and thus its period as good as possible with pro/retrograde burns, eventually at 0.5% thrust with fine thrust control. Then I turn slightly off normal/antinormal towards pro/retrograde and give tiny thrust again, which will change period very slightly. I've achieved synchronization to the ms this way. [21:36:39] I skip the last part and usually end up within a few ms. good enough [21:36:44] looks like I really need this mod [21:37:05] or just send more sats on random orbits ;) [21:37:32] Or tune your arrival time to have a (possibly single) relay in position where needed. [21:38:10] ok, craft exploded on Eve's re-entry [21:38:33] Heat shield used up or overheated? [21:38:45] blob:https://imgur.com/59b1b1db-f474-4918-b957-2e5f991e61ea [21:38:47] oups [21:38:51] https://i.imgur.com/u1qapZy.png [21:38:55] everything behind it burned [21:40:34] back to not having any money left :D [21:40:46] In some cases using SAS buttons and full/no thrust without connection is sufficient. Adjusting thrust limiter in time may be necessary. [21:41:32] Kerbal Space Casino [21:43:42] And it's kinda realistic. At low data rate you can get away with a smaller antenna, e.g. the internal 500 km one. And without LOS we can execute programmed maneuvers. [21:44:41] IIRC the GPS signal is lower than noise and is only extracted statistically or so. [21:44:59] yep, GPS signals are incredibly low [21:47:29] the thing I can't get my head around is the multi-path signal magic basically every modern wifi router uses [21:47:57] put a reflecting obstacle somewhere near both stations and the data rate improves [23:35:37] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+v eriophora' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net
