[00:51:23] wow, this looks like a very complex autopilot system. I've got to try it. https://github.com/allista/ThrottleControlledAvionics/blob/master/GameData/ThrottleControlledAvionics/INSTRUCTIONS.md [00:51:48] it can probably make brick fly (and land) as long as it's got some engines anywhere [01:36:42] sitting here.. wondering how I got 10 science reports on one or two biomes but 9 on a bunch of others.. took kerbal out on EVA while ship was 'floating'... hmm [01:39:42] lol.. someone said to jump kerbal and take EVA while in air... yup, flying over shore biome while jumping works on runway. Wish I knew that earlier [02:54:58] At least you do nor? [04:36:51] going through my screen shots... seemed to have caught a bad moment by accident? https://imgur.com/a/39Ko3CJ [04:37:16] I know he says check yo staging and all.. but.. sometimes its not always easy to catch.. :\ [04:38:08] think I was trying to 'scramble' for the 'esc' key .. hit F1 by mistake on the way over.. [05:17:54] yo [05:24:07] yay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy6KeeXCoxs [05:26:19] lol the zigzag orbits [05:29:20] hehe flat kerbin [05:29:50] not time for the flat earth videos just yet, but i already have a 3 hour long from yesterday [05:34:21] oh man [05:34:24] great video [06:28:03] 5 long flat earth videos, i am set for the day [06:42:54] planned or watched? [06:43:03] open tab [07:04:18] ko, let's start with the shortest one, nonsequitur show flaturday night fights ep 35 (and 36 follows) [07:15:07] hehe first one failed because the flat earther was too dumb to connect to the video conference [07:21:40] i can't imagine technical ineptness being a property unique to flat earthers [07:23:50] but it is more common tehre [07:25:56] i'd file that under perception bias [07:37:38] so, this throttle control mod linked earlier... can i use that so while docking, it uses RCS for translation controls, but reaction wheels only for rotation controls? [07:37:56] without constantly toggling RCS manually? [11:31:04] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot88.png Will it blend? :) [11:31:25] Action: darsie tried to break a joint. [11:34:23] You should launch this vessle, it's so hilarious :). [11:35:27] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/Untitled%20Space%20Craft.craft [11:46:57] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot89.png [11:47:03] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot96.png [11:47:09] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot93.png [11:48:10] that reminds me to see if Danny is still alive [11:48:12] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy6KeeXCoxs [11:48:14] he is \o/ [11:48:19] Althego: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy6KeeXCoxs :P [11:58:49] hehe [12:25:09] what's that symmetry option in the VAB? [12:26:06] My setting? Dunno. [12:26:11] 8x [12:26:39] ahh, that's from editor extension redux. [12:27:04] Also gives you different snap angles. [12:41:58] I can't spin it up so it flies apart: http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot102.png [14:03:00] you want to rip it apart, but it doesn't? haven't heard that complaint very often about this game :p [14:07:29] Less struts, more boosters. You're welcome. [14:20:54] fewer [14:21:19] Ah cmon [14:48:42] Eddi|zuHause: Well, I want to explore the limits. You could say, so I know how not to rip it apart. :) [15:37:10] OMFFSM, I did it. I landed my Dart (?) SSTO 2 tourist rocket. [15:37:31] yeah, dart. [15:37:46] so hard to slow down to get the chute deployed. [15:38:17] Had to pull up with two axes. [15:39:48] \o/ [15:40:28] Full rocket recovery. [15:52:25] Hmm, no screenshot. I guess F1 didn't work while holding down a and s. [15:55:40] keyboard ghosting [15:58:45] Need additional key rollover? [15:58:53] could just screen shot in VAB? [15:58:54] hm? [15:59:30] JVFoxy: Yeah, but I wanted a show when I did a pulling up lifting aerobrake over the KSC. [15:59:42] shot [15:59:52] heh.. its ok. I'd be curious to see what the craft looked like in general [16:00:03] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot103.png [16:00:20] oh right.. the spikey thing [16:01:00] wait.. aerospike engine has vector or no? [16:01:15] no [16:01:16] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [16:01:23] http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot72.png [16:01:44] where we're going, we don't need wings [16:02:02] Eve :) [16:02:08] hmm.. so no vectoring, how'd ya turn it? [16:02:18] guess [16:02:24] turned itself [16:02:34] because of the launch angle [16:02:36] RW? [16:02:37] Kerbals throwing themselves at capsule walls [16:02:42] RW, right. [16:02:46] And launch angle. [16:03:07] well at launch you basically ballistic with thrust [16:03:19] but what about when getting the right angle to retro? [16:03:41] retro burn to reentry? [16:03:59] there is a reaction wheel on [16:04:14] I thought he meant that with RW. [16:05:15] well to face the right way in order to do retro burn.. but ya, wasn't sure if you used the probe's RW. Didn't remember if it had enough force. I know some people despise the power of KSP's RW [16:05:54] I do my reentry burn in vacuum, so not much force needed ;). [16:06:10] deorbit burn* [16:07:16] At 25 km I pull up, generate lift and drag, throw chute, little landing burn, cause the chute is not enough. [16:08:22] I wouldn't have minded little thruster blocks, uses regular fuel like the vernier but not so much power and multi directional [16:08:59] or even just one.. RCS is nice to have but, separate fuel and stock tank not small [16:48:09] JVFoxy, that's why there are MP engines :) Though I never use them... [16:48:46] Lordcirth MP? [16:49:32] This time I used W+D to pull up and got a screenshot: http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot104.png I forgot to shut down the landing burn, took off again and landed a bit hard and only the passenger cabin survived. [16:51:24] JVFoxy, monoprop [16:51:59] ah.. puffer engine.. ya even thats pretty big though. Had me thtinking multi purpose engine [16:53:14] I was doing some stuff last night. drove a floating platform out to the water, jetted out till I was in Water biome. [16:53:39] uncoupled the little lander pod, but before I could get the landing legs down, it slid off the back of the platform. [16:55:19] with a couple of spark engines, I was able to fly it up, slow enough to land back down on the platform. It landed with enough force, the platform splashed pretty loudly in the water. At first I thought I broke something. fortunately, the docking port jr had enough magnetic force to keep it from sliding off again. I was able to get some 'landed on w [16:55:20] ater' science :P [16:56:26] if its a ship in the water, its just considered 'spashed down'... but now I'm wondering about floating platforms and boats or something. [17:05:39] JVFoxy, on really tiny probes, you can just use a 1-way RCS thruster as your main engine [17:06:01] Or just have a set of 4 4-way thrusters and use those for everything [17:15:08] I've done the single linear port or a pair of them for small stuff.. trouble I find with doing it the 4 4way has to be very near the center of mass. And some designs I've had, some reason a roll was induced [17:16:27] JVFoxy, use RCS Build Aid [17:16:33] and ya.. everything was perfectly symmetrical.. usually now I do 4 4ways at the base at 50 percent, and 4 linears on the other end. [17:17:11] sure its more parts but longer mechanical movement [17:18:09] lordcirth ya saw that a while back, briefly though [17:18:40] maybe when I get around to doing spaceplanes again.. though I seem to be doing pretty good with things so far [17:38:56] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptor' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [17:45:12] It's a great mod, and it now helps with normal engines too [17:45:47] Also tells you RCS TWR and Dv, which is really helpful [17:47:14] not so worried on TWR.. but the DV I could use for some things [17:51:17] doing some research for a video idea.. [17:51:44] didn't realize this till now but wow! If you stand still at equator, you already going nearly 1000mph just from earth's rotation [17:52:59] flat earthers are very kind and point that fact out constantly [17:53:23] and cite this as something unbelievabée [17:53:24] le [17:55:40] meh... wasn't even thinking of them to be honest [17:56:07] more wondering, for a polar orbit, if you launch from equator vs launching from near the poles... [17:57:46] equator: you do get that 1000mph boost, but you would also have to redirect it into a north/south direction. [17:59:12] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [17:59:52] ugh, also sorry. Might not be able to take off. [19:00:32] that is why you land on the flats on minmus [19:00:42] the biggest landing strips in the solar system [19:02:32] But I wanted to land next to my lab with the loneley scientists. [19:03:08] Hah, now I know why [19:03:16] Hah, now I know why Kerbals don't need food. [19:03:24] They are plants. They are green :). [19:03:27] Althego icecaps of Kerbin.. lets not forget [19:03:49] They live off sunlight :). [19:03:57] alternate hypothesis is they are funghi [19:04:05] when they die they turn into a cloud of spores [19:04:09] mine need snacks [19:04:16] Funghi need stuff like cellulose to eat. [19:04:37] my theory? They just 'dolls'.. [19:04:53] well.. animated 'dolls' technically.. they can walk.. sorta [19:05:12] robots... [19:07:02] i'm bringing my science lander to minmus from the mun... if i take too long i will run out of snacks [19:07:26] which mod for snaks? [19:13:12] i think it's just called snacks [19:13:31] https://spacedock.info/mod/975/Snacks%20Continued [19:17:08] I've considered a life support mod.. maybe when I get around to career in 1.7... [19:18:06] snacks is really nice for me [19:18:13] i tuned it down to like 1 snack/day [19:19:58] neat little 'simple' mod... [19:20:46] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptor' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [20:10:51] Oops, I didn't mean to land that close :) http://bksys.at/bernhard/temp/screenshot112.png [20:18:19] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [20:19:20] https://i.imgur.com/dFNDSJB.gifv [20:22:38] darsie whats connected between landing legs and the tank? [20:23:51] looks like cubic octagonal struts attaching the legs to the body [20:25:49] quite a few? So act like springs? [20:28:00] no, even i use them like that in many cases, simply because the legs are not long enough [20:28:09] they dont work as a spring, completely rigid [20:28:43] oh.. the long box thing.. I thought many of the shorter ones [20:33:36] The cubic octagonal struts are only 1 kg. [20:33:52] I've even used them as landing legs. [20:33:52] the best parts in the game [20:33:55] :) [20:34:01] so many uses [20:34:52] only one big issue with them, they increase lag, because sometimes you need so many of them, but they have no longer alternative because everything else is a lot ehavier [20:37:08] RO has longer versions, but 2 kg/piece. [20:37:26] that would be good, anything to take the part count down [20:37:40] I've used something of the likes as landing struts.. landing tiny probe on airless places [20:38:22] I've some designs that use the tiny fins as struts for 4way RCS blocks [21:06:43] Wow, with 15 m/s left my single stage to Minmus made it back to Kerbin :). [21:07:37] Landad 160 m away from the Minmus landing site. [21:07:42] Landed [21:07:53] That's ok, ppl can walk that far. [21:15:54] as opposed to just landing so close, you resting against each other? [21:20:56] yeah :). [21:21:27] Had difficulty launching without breaking the (now useless) solar panels and then didn't have enough dv to go back home. [21:22:23] half wondering what it would take to build a mobile launch platform that can be reused... something that fight into a plane, flown to a site. Then have other parts flown in, assembled. Frame lifts it up, then you can launch [21:22:39] fight into a plane... ugh, /fit/ [21:30:53] i have no clue what you're trying to say [21:36:25] just mulling things.. half awake.. [22:34:22] Apparently Danny is exploiting floating point errors for fun and profit? [22:45:33] JVFoxy: maybe you want extraplanetary launchpads? [22:45:58] I thought about that, I could.. but.. whats the fun in that? [22:46:16] i've never really looked at it [22:46:40] I could also do it with kerbinside or whatever that other one was [22:47:39] oh right Kerbal Konstructs...
